Background

Dr. Jönsson grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. His father was a general dentist, and early exposure to that practice sparked a lifelong interest in helping patients navigate dental care with confidence and skill. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Utah, earning a degree in Medical Biology, before pursuing dental school at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco.

At UOP, Dr. Jönsson graduated in 2001 with high honors and received membership in two dental honor societies: Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) and Tau Kappa Omega (TKO) — recognitions awarded to students who demonstrate both academic distinction and character in the profession.

Specialty Training

After graduation, Dr. Jönsson practiced general dentistry in San Francisco before deciding to pursue specialty training in endodontics. He completed his endodontic residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he also earned a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology in 2005.

Seeking to expand the scope of care he could offer patients, Dr. Jönsson subsequently completed a fellowship in implant dentistry at Loma Linda University (2008–2010). He also received training in intravenous (IV) sedation, which allows him to provide care to patients who experience significant dental anxiety or require a higher level of comfort management during procedures.

He holds a Diplomate designation from the American Board of Endodontics — one of the specialty's highest recognitions — and serves as an Associate Clinical Professor at Loma Linda University, where he participates in the training of the next generation of dental specialists.

Clinical Philosophy

Dr. Jönsson believes the consultation conversation is the most important part of any case. Understanding a patient's history, concerns, and expectations before committing to a treatment plan ensures that clinical decisions are genuinely patient-centered. He draws on more than two decades of practice experience to navigate complex cases — including retreatments, calcified canals, and cases complicated by prior procedures.

He no longer performs implant placement (having stepped away from that component of care in 2020), focusing his practice exclusively on endodontic diagnosis and treatment.

Personal

Dr. Jönsson is married and has two sons. Outside of dentistry, he enjoys traveling and surfing.
